What we believe about baptism

We believe in the importance of being baptized as a Christian. Not because the act of being dunked under the water is what makes you “right” in your relationship with God; but rather because it is a visual picture of what happened in your heart when you asked Jesus Christ to forgive your sins and be your Savior.

Sin is anything that goes against what God has asked us to do or be.  The Bible teaches us that we all have sinned or “missed the mark” of perfection that God expects from each of us.

So we have a problem that Jesus Christ solved for us by dying on the cross in our place and then coming back to life to show us that He is God and has both the power over life and death and over sin. Therefore, He has the power to forgive our sins and make us “right” with Him.

Baptism is then something we do to show our new relationship with Jesus as a witness to those who do not yet know Jesus as their Savior. And our baptism also serves as an encouragement to those who do know Jesus but that may be tired or worn down because of their struggles in this world.

Romans 6:4 –  “We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. “
